Our method

The stages of a roof renovation

From the first visit to the finishing touches, here is how your roof renovation unfolds. Open a stage to see the details.

01 Roof survey

Before any quote, our site manager inspects your roof on site and takes every measurement. They check its overall condition and spots the work to plan for: repairing or straightening the roof frame, replacing roof windows… The detailed quote is free.
02 Planning permission
Changing the roofing material, insulating the roof from the outside (sarking), adding or enlarging a roof window or altering the roof frame requires a prior declaration (déclaration préalable) at the town hall (article R*421-17 of the French planning code). Some town halls in the Lille area now ask for one even for a like-for-like re-roof, so we recommend filing one for any full roof renovation.
This free application must be prepared and filed by the owner or their architect: we cannot do it on their behalf. File it at least four months before the works start, as processing can take a while depending on the town hall. Our guide explains step by step how to prepare it and file it online.

03 Scaffolding

Work starts with the scaffolding, essential to reach the roof and work safely. We handle every town-hall formality and pay the public-space occupancy fees for the whole job.
04 Stripping the old roof

We remove the old covering to expose the roof frame; interior insulation can be kept. We take all waste away, and tiles, slates, wood and metal are recycled. An underlay goes on straight after stripping, so the frame stays dry throughout the job.
05 Roof insulation

Replacing the covering is the moment to insulate the roof from outside: with a thin multi-layer vapour-permeable insulation, or with rigid boards laid as sarking, the most effective method. The insulation and its thickness are chosen after a study of your needs and of how the rest of the house is insulated.
06 Laying the new roof

Next comes the new covering, laid over the external insulation when there is one. The laying technique depends on the material: tiles, slate, zinc, steel sheeting…
07 Finishing

Depending on the job, we also create roof openings, fit roof windows and handle other finishing work, including replacing rainwater drainage: gutters, box gutters…
